Just a Drop

One thing to be said for all our rain and soggy weather---during the breaks, I get plenty of opportunity to get out and hunt for refractions.  The wood hyacinth are blooming right now, and the up-curved petals hold the perfectly shaped drop for a refraction.  Find the drops, then angle around until you have just the view you want.  Sometimes the matter of a few degrees can change what you see in the drop.  You don't have to mind getting down on the ground and getting (at least) your knees wet.

I love rocks.  I love refractions in water drops.  I was lucky enough to get both during one of our sunbreaks.

One Man's Weed....

...is another man's flower.  This hillside carpeted in white looks so fresh and beautiful!

 Closer up, you see these.  I don't know what these are, but they are prolifically blooming right now, interspersed with dandelions.  They are a little smaller than a dime, and only about 2-3" tall.  I know they are weed-ish, but they are so pretty and delicate, despite their "reputation".

 I really like the way the backside of the petals is pink--it makes such a pretty effect in a full field with some fully opened flowers, and some just opening, showing their pettiskirts.

Shy...

Yes!  it's violet time.  The wild woods violets are blooming--if you can find the shy little things, hidden so carefully away.

A little sparkle

The rain is back, but the sun was GLORIOUS while it lasted.  A drop, a refraction and a sunflare--I'm happy!

Just breathe

One of my favorite scents of spring.  Don't you just want to bury your nose in these and inhale?

 Yes, this is the correct orientation.  They were clinging to the vertical edge of the hosta leaf that was unfurling.

 Had a phone call last night, and for once the caller ID nailed it!  How many people do you think are answering their phones if this is what comes up on caller ID? 

                                     

Hosta Drops

We had nearly 2" of rain this weekend--Saturday and Sunday felt more like November than May!  It rained this morning, too (can't believe those clouds aren't empty yet!) but this afternoon it stopped raining for a while.  I love this time of year when the hosta are just coming up, and are tightly rolled.  The raindrops do a fine balancing act on the tips, and on the edges of the leaves.  I crawled around and shot what I could find; I should use a tripod but it was one more thing to juggle...
